Antarctic King Sejong Station
King Sejong The Great
Start at the end of the world

- King Sejong is the fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty following King Taejong. He dedicated himself to stabilizing and developing Joseon. To do so, he righteously ruled the Korean people based on “wangdo,” a Neo-Confucian concept of the rule of right. He founded Jiphyeonjeon, a royal research institute where scholars were encouraged to conduct research day and night, and created “hangul,” the Korean alphabet.
- King Sejong also published a number of books including “Goryeosa,” which means the “History of Goryeo,” and “Nongsa Jikseol” or “Straight Talks on Farming.” He made the greatest achievements in the Joseon Dynasty both internally and externally by advancing politics, studies, and art and strengthening the national defense.
- The name “the Antarctic King Sejong Station” won in a naming contest because of its easy pronunciation and the meaningfulness in honoring King Sejong.
